Use everyday activites to enhance math skills. Make connections between math and activities that your child is interested in (e.g. sports, cooking, shopping).
Help you child practice math - play math games and help them practice with math rhymes and raps.
Encourage the use of math through technology (the internet or math software).
Create a positive math climate provide lots of positive feedback, have a positive tone and don’t dwell on your own math challenges or phobias (e.g. Don't say "I hate math. It was my worst subject.").
Communicate regularly with the teacher.
Get specialised instruction for your child if he/she has challenges in math.
Follow up and check homework assignments. Establish good homework routines and help your child prepare for tests.
Understand new math programs and school expectations – you are not expected to actually teach your child, but you will need to support and understand the curriculum and know what the teacher’s expectations are.
Encourage your child to talk about math.
